Fairway Cape Cod Exterior Transformation
This 1950 Fairway Cape Cod home had been patched and repaired for years, but the exterior continued to show signs of deeper issues. Woodpeckers feasted on the wood siding, improper installation, and missing water management systems left the home vulnerable to moisture, pests, and long-term damage.
The homeowners decided to move forward with a full exterior renovation instead of continuing temporary repairs. They wanted an exterior that kept the unique charm and beauty of their home, was woodpecker resistant, performed properly, and would last for decades in Kansas City’s climate.
Fairway Exteriors was selected to complete the transformation using durable materials and installation methods designed for long-term performance and to keep woodpeckers out. Today, the home features a timeless design that preserves its original charm and will serve the homeowners for decades.
Project Goal
The existing siding had been installed incorrectly by the previous homeowner and maintained through temporary repairs, which led to moisture concerns, woodpeckers, and long-term deterioration. Without proper gutter sizes and no gutter guards, water had been getting clogged and running directly down the siding for years, accelerating damage.
The homeowners wanted to correct these issues at the source. The plan focused on properly sealing the home, installing durable siding suited for Fairway’s weather, adding functional gutters. At the same time, the exterior needed to reflect the timeless Cape Cod Design and character.
Design & Consultation
Fairway Exteriors evaluated the home’s exterior conditions and developed a clear plan before work began. Preparation, sealing, and proper installation were treated as critical to long-term performance. Fairway Exteriors provided design renderings so the homeowners could see their vision come to life and rest assured that the finished product would meet their design vision.
James Hardie® fiber cement siding was selected for its durability, moisture resistance, and compatibility with a Cape Cod Design. The design combined James Hardie Straight Edge Shingles and lap siding and copper gutters.
Transformation
The renovation improved both performance and appearance. No More Woodpeckers. Improperly installed siding was removed and replaced with a complete James Hardie® siding system installed with flashing details.
New Marvin Elevate Windows with SDL grids continued to allow the homeowners to keep the charm and help seal up the house from draft cold and hot summer air. Copper gutters, new ProVia doors and a new Carriage style garage door from Clopay helped round out the design and transform the home from a woodpecker and water nightmare into a timeless and low maintenance Dream Home.
